My name is Andy Kampfschulte. I recently completed my PhD from the University of Southern California’s Population, Health and Place program, where my dissertation — Spatial and Statistical Methods in Health Research — examined how incorporating spatial context shapes the questions we ask and the methods we use in public health inquiry. I now work as a Principal Bioinformatics Scientist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where I apply spatial methods to risk stratification of pediatric patients.

My work sits at the intersection of spatial statistics, clinical informatics, and population health. I am broadly interested in how the places people live, receive care, and grow up shape health outcomes — and in making sure the analytical frameworks we use are up to the task of capturing that complexity. At CHOP, that means developing spatially-informed tools that help clinicians and researchers better understand heterogeneity in pediatric risk.

I am a devoted R programmer and a tireless advocate for reproducible research and open science — occasionally to the annoyance of my collaborators. I also have a soft spot for LaTeX.
